Bangladesh‍‍`s top police official, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, made it clear that the police cannot perform miracles when it comes to controlling the country’s crime and law and order situation.

He explained that although the police are working hard to improve the situation, everyone knows the challenges they are facing.

IGP Baharul Alam shared these views during his speech at the annual meeting of the Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association, held at Rajarbagh on Saturday afternoon.

In response to a question from reporters, he said, "The police do not have magic to stop theft, robbery, and murder across the country. We are trying. We need the help of students. Everyone must work together to fight these crimes."

He also addressed another question about coordinators who had been threatened with death, saying, "The police have resolved all of these issues."

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali, who was also at the event, spoke about the police’s role during the July-August uprising.

He said, "If the police had made the right decision 72 hours before August 5, many lives could have been saved." He went on to express regret over the police‍‍`s involvement in the events of the mass protests.
